Gabriela Korthuis is a junior in Political Science, International Studies, and European Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research focuses on colonial legacies and their lasting effects around the world, with her most recent project examining how German and British colonial infrastructure in Tanzania has shaped the spread and treatment of Malaria. Gabriela deepened this academic focus during a full academic year with Foundation for International Education in London, where she also attended the 2025 Student Global Leadership Conference and continued exploring questions of culture, identity, and European legacies across different contexts.
Outside of CIRA, Gabriela balances a full academic schedule with working part-time during the school year and full-time over the summers. On weekends, she can be found at the local farmer's market with Bloom Bake Shop. She is committed to community engagement, with experience at the Venture Centre after-school program and teaching pottery to young children. During her time in London, she was an active member of the Imperial College Art Society and Spanish Society. Gabriela has a strong passion for the Spanish language, having spent time immersed in both Peru and Spain as part of her Spanish education.
Originally from Holmen, Wisconsin, Gabriela has a love for travel and has lived across two countries and four cities. In her free time, she enjoys drawing, painting, reading, hiking, and playing the piano.
